This amazing hand came from a recent Crockfords match and West led the ªAce and when his partner dropped the Queen at trick one misguidedly play a second Spade.
My esteemed partner, Ned Paul, pounced and immediately took his chances. He ruffed in dummy discarding a Heart. If East has the Heart Ace and 5 Clubs he would be caught in a nasty squeeze on the run of the Diamonds, After cashing all his diamonds East was fixed and could not guard both the Clubs and the Heart ace and eventually chucked the Heart Ace hoping partner held the King.
Declarer was able to make 8 Diamonds, 1 Spade ruffed in dummy, 2 Clubs and the Heart King.
(Of course the ªK at trick one was a suit preference signal for a Heart switch. Declarer could not possibly have bid 6¨ with three Spades to the Queen could he ?)
