Without the Double you would lead the suit that both you and partner bid. However the Double now says WAKE UP Partner I AM MAKING A Lightner Double and I would like you to make an unusual lead and to lead dummy’s first bid suit. You duly do as you are told and lead a Club. Partner is able to ruff the first trick and now the contract goes one off. Any other lead and the contract easily makes. Thank you Theo Lightner.
