On this hand from the
OK Bridge site you end playing 6©
which is a particularly easy contract considering you have an initial count of
12 tricks without doing any work at all – 3 Spades, 6 trumps 2 Diamonds and 1
club but can you eke out a 13th trick for all the Match Points. You
might think you could chuck a Diamond loser on the third round of spades and
then establish the suit but there is one slight problem – you will not be able
to get back to them as you don’t have another entry to dummy. Since
we have exactly 12 tricks on top, the hand is ripe for a squeeze. In squeeze
play you need to be one trick short of your target figure - if the player who
has three Diamonds also controls the Club suit then we can squeeze that player. With
this in mind we take the first trick and cashed all the Hearts and Spades, At
trick 10 East is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. If he continues
to guard Clubs he will have to release a Diamond and then all the Diamonds will
be good and if he releases the other top Club then dummy’s Jack is high.
You can also view
watch the following movie to see how the hand pans out. (You need bridgvu.exe
programme or BridgeBase programme on your machine already to view it ) and
it is available free from
