When you count winners you can only count definite tricks with NO IFS OR BUTS

so AK54 opposite Q932 is ONLY 3 WINNERS because the suit might break 4:1 or even 5:0

and with KQJ109 opposite 876 you have NO WINNERS YET even if this is the trump suit.

INTERMEDIATES TIP 877

If somebody intervened then that person is more likely to hold missing important cards. Declarer should bear this in mind when looking for outsatnding Kings and Aces ª

ADVANCED TIP 877

Once partner has overcalled you should now bid to the LEVEL OF THE FIT- this means if you have 3 card support raise to the two level 4 card support rasei to the three level and with 5 card support raise to 4 level ALL PRE-EMPTIVELY (don't worry about your point count -just be an unfriendly opponent)
