How
can South make his 10 tricks ?
With
no losers in the 3 side suits declarer needs to make sure he keeps control of
the trump suit and doesn’t get forced. With this in mind he needs to assume
that trumps are no worse than 42 and be happy to lose 2 trump tricks.
After
winning the first trick He can cash two Trumps and then merely knock out the
Club Ace. Now he easily makes 1 Spade, 2 Hearts, 2 Diamonds, 4 Clubs and a trump
in the wash.
If
you fall into temptation and take the heart finesse, at trick three, West will
merely play more Spades at you before you have knocked out the Club Ace and now
the defence have the upper hand. This hand comes from a delightful
computer programme called “Declarer’s Play in Suit Contracts” from
Dabrisoft Denmark and a trial version can be downloaded from www.dabrisoft.dk
