The ©K
is led plan your play.
A thoughtless declarer will go up with
the Heart Ace and get a rude awakening when East ruffs and puts a club through.
Declarer will lose 2 Hearts, 1 Club and finally the Diamond queen.
Declarer should know from the bidding
that West almost certainly
started with 8 Hearts and that the first trick is therefore likely to be
ruffed. However declarer can still be safe as long as he loses only 2 Hearts and
1 Diamond and the possible club
loser will go on the long diamond.
Declarer should duck the first two
Hearts, thereby keeping East off lead to stop the dreaded Club switch. When the
third heart is played declarer overruffs East, draws trumps, and takes a losing
Diamond finesse. East gets his Queen but now the club loser is thrown on
dummy’s last winning Diamond.
Declarer has made 6 Hearts, 3Diamonds and 1 club restricting his losers to just 2 Hearts and a Diamond.
