You
lead ¨A
Playing MP’s
plan your defence after seeing dummy.
You
lead partner’s suit and after the first trick you take stock. Partner is known
to hold six Diamonds from his opening bid of 2 so to continue with another
Diamond would be futile as declarer would be trumping trick two.
You
look at dummy and realize that if you play clubs you will be setting up a club
trick for declarer
and a possible discard for any losers he has in the closed hand.
Therefore the only sensible switch is to Hearts. By switching to a heart you
establish a Heart trick for the defence before declarer can get the clubs
working.
The
Heart switch will now enable the defence to bring in 4 defensive tricks which
should be an above average Match Point Score. Any other defence and declarer
will get the clubs going and will lose just 2 Clubs and 1 Diamond (pitching the
club on the established club winner).
