In
order to make 11 tricks here you will have to finesse the trumps up to three
times and set up dummy’s clubs at the same time. In order to repeat the trump
finesse you will have to return to hand. The only way to do this is by ruffing a
club. As long as the trumps are no worse than 3:1 (49%) and the clubs no worse
than 4:2 (48%) you can muster up 11 tricks. After winning the first trick with
your ©K
you play ªJ
(best card to induce a cover, but West is not so accommodating and follows low).
After winning second trick with his King, West exits with a Heart. You now cash
a Club and ruff a club. You now have the all important entry back to hand to
finesse the Spade again. When it succeeds you draw the Ace and ruff one more
club. Dummy is now high in Black cards, with no more trumps out. With your
careful play you have made, 3 Trumps, 2 Hearts, 2 Clubs, 2 Clubs ruffed and 2
established clubs
